Leoni van Rensburg from Namibia’s athletics community has helped lead the launch of the first Namibian Coaching Certification Program, aimed at improving coaching skills and development across the country.

In a landmark achievement for Namibian sports development, the country has successfully completed its first-ever Namibian Coaching Certification Program, marking a major step toward professionalizing coaching across all regions and sporting codes.

The program, which saw 60 coaches participate from diverse sporting disciplines nationwide, represents a historic collaboration between the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC-CGA), the Namibia Sports Commission, and the Government of Namibia. It was funded by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), with strong academic support from the University of Namibia (UNAM).

UNAM’s esteemed Professor and Doctor in Sports Science, along with two lecturers, delivered a comprehensive curriculum blending theory and practical application. The course focused on developing essential coaching skills, leadership, and athlete management, ensuring Namibian coaches are equipped to guide the next generation of athletes to success both locally and internationally.

This initiative, the third major project of the year for the organizing team, underscores Namibia’s commitment to elevating sports standards nationwide. With one more project still to come before the year’s end, this milestone demonstrates consistent progress and growing collaboration within the nation’s sports ecosystem.

The certification program will now be offered annually, providing continuous opportunities for capacity building and professional growth within the country’s coaching community.

As Namibia continues to invest in its sports infrastructure and human capital, this program stands as a powerful symbol of progress, unity, and the pursuit of excellence in sport.
